Hey all,
I got a chance to talk to Benjamin Meijer, our contact in Panajachel, and I wanted to pass along some info that could save you some space as you're packing.
We will be staying in a missionary house, and the rooms have beds and sheets, so we don't need to bring tents. I'm not even bringing a sleeping pad, but that's up to you. He said the only time we might need pads would be if we took the kids on a weekend camping trip, and in that case, they just rough it. So it's your call.ย
He also said to bring rain gear (jacket, pants if you want) because it's the rainy season, so we'll be getting at least a little bit of rain most days.
Benjamin suggested bringing light long pants to work in because of the gnats/biting flies. You can work in shorts if you want, but he said you'll be swatting flies off your legs the whole time.
As far as the dresscode goes, he said the church has no rules ... just that girls use discretion and stay a little more conservative ... nothing low-cut or really tight ... or else there is a good chance the locals will try to marry you.
So there it is. If you have any other quick questions, let me know and I'll answer them as best as I can. Benjamin sounds awesome, and Pana is beautiful, so it's going to be a great two months. Can't wait to see you all this week. Later,
Don
