Hey everyone!!

My name is Darren Roberts I am 20 years old and live in Bend Oregon!! I go to school at the local community college here!! I am currently studying to become a teacher but might switch my major to Emergency Medical Services. The fact that I want to coach football might be why a teacher sounds so appealing:) I always feel like I need to figure school stuff out quick, but my eyes are always on Jesus and I know God has an amazing plan for my life. 

I am very new to Oregon. My hometown is in Yakima Washington. I moved to bend this last November to start a new life. In Yakima I chose the life of drugs and honestly felt like I could not get out of that game. I struggled with a cocaine addiction all through high school and most recently this summer a heroin addiction. I got saved in 2008, but would always end up going back to old friends and never really let Jesus just grab my heart and take hold of it. This September one of my distant buddies saw that I was struggling, and offered me to move up with him. I took a risk, and moved to Bend early November. The second day I moved here, I got plugged into an awesome church!! I thank God for his grace, and what he has pulled me out of since then.(just keeping it real, its all part of the testimony! why not throw my life out there the first blog!!?)

As far as this mission trip, I could not be more stoked/nervous for anything in my life!! Feel free to blog back with some words of encouragement!  I have never been on one, so hopefully your guys can tell me what to expect. My buddy showed me the adventures web sight a couple months ago and I kept finding myself checking out trips. I prayed for awhile on this, and eventually applied and got accepted. I tend to forget how awesome I have it in the states, and am prepared to help these people in Guatemala any way I can. I honestly can't tell you guys why I chose Guatemala. Maybe because I can afford it? Or maybe because Spanish is the only second language i know?? I took one year of high school Spanish and my school was 53 percent Hispanic.So i can understand some of it.(maybe not the best words) I guess i'll just have to learn!!

Typical day for me in bend: wake up go to school, hurry out of class get all my gear and head up to Mt Bachelor.

I recently picked up snowboarding, and try to get up to the mountain 3 or 4 times a week at least!!
